Electronic Publications
Once you have
organized your recipes in Home Cookin, you can export your favorites to
the ePub format. EPUB is a popular electronic publication format that
is supported by many e-readers, tablets, and smart phones. Software is
also available for desktop or laptop computers to view ePub
documents.
One major advantage of ePub over other formats like PDF or Word
documents is that it is "flowable". Text and graphics adjust
automatically to different screen sizes and orientations. You can also
change the font and sizes in the reader instead of whatever is forced
in the original document. As for Home Cookin, it means you can view
your recipes on your mobile devices even if you don't have internet
access, and a content index makes it easy to find the recipe you are
looking for.
My favorite eReader is
Neat Reader. It includes a built-in
file transfer feature and versions are available for Windows, Mac, IOS,
and Android devices.
If you don't want to use NeatReader there are many alternative apps you
can use to transfer your ePub document to your tablet, such as
WiFi File Transfer (Android) or
WiFi File
Drive (iOS). Then open the ePub file with the reader of your
choice, such as iBooks.
Export Your Recipes to ePub Format
- Check the boxes next to the recipes you want to export, or press
Control+A to select all recipes in the current chapter.
Note: Most e-readers work best with less than 1000 recipes, so
try to limit how many recipes you export to a single file.
- Click the Export button
- Select the Export to a File option.
- Select the ePUB export format.
- Click OK. When the file selector appears, choose the drive
and folder where you want to save your file. Make sure the
"destination" path is correct.
- Enter a filename for your ePub document and click OK.
Transfer Your ePub Document to Your E-Reader
- Install the NeatReader app on your tablet or smart
phone.
- Open NeatReader and select the Books screen.
- Tap the + button to add a new book.
- Tap the Wifi Transfer option.
- Open a web browser on your computer, then follow the instructions
on the NeatReader screen to transfer the ePub file you exported from
Home Cookin above.
- Once the ePub is on your mobile device, tap the desired ePub book
to open it.
